An official of Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) is here on 'mission admission' for foreign students as a part of cultural exchange programme.
SD Goswami, regional officer of ICCR, Ministry of External Affairs, visited the city on Wednesday and made a courtesy call on Allahabad University Vice-Chancellor Prof RG Harshe.
The meeting was based on admitting foreign students from far flung countries in the university.
Goswami also visited Kathak Kendra and met Urmila Sharma, the newly elected member of Indian Council for Cultural Relations Advisory Committee.
"In our programme of cultural exchange, Allahabad University will accommodate 52 foreign students out of which 28 are from Afghanistan. Others belong to the countries like Cambodia, Tanzania, Britain, Nepal, Maldives, Kazhakistan, Iraq etc. Thus it will be a good international gathering on the campus," said Goswami.
"The students will probably arrive by the last week of August.
There are several criterion regarding the course they will pursue and thus we still have no details about it," he added.
Goswami admitted that BHU has maximum number of foreign students while there are also several others in Lucknow University. "We keep conducting camps, cultural programmes etc so that these students get a better exposure to Indian culture. As a matter of fact, they are cultural ambassadors to our country and we provide them enough facilities under the welfare schemes," said Goswami.
Goswami also informed about the possibility of a group of South African artistes to perform in Allahabad in future.

{{/usCountry}}"Plans are underway about the issue. It is true that Indian culture gets much appreciation abroad and we are proud of it. If there is possibility of admitting more foreign students in the university then it will be a welcome sign," he added.
