AFTER FAILING to receive any response from operators to form an umbrella company for plying Maruti Omni cars in the City, the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) has decided to hand over their operation to Indore City Transport Services Limited (ICTSL) that will ply as contractual carriages. This will include pre-paid taxi or dial a cab system.
ICTSL, in fact, has refused to take over the management of Omnis that will operate as stage carriages. As a result, stage carriage Omnis will run without an umbrella organisation. At the open house held at Gandhi Hall on September 3, RTA had announced to introduce stage and contractual Omni carriages.
The Authority had also asked Omni operators to form an umbrella company to run them. In its report submitted to RTA, ICTSL Executive Director Vivek Aggarwal has defined company’s terms for Omni operators stating that the vehicles would bear ICTSL logo while drivers would wear uniforms and be trained in behavioural ethics.
The modalities, nevertheless, are still under deliberations. The three-member Task Force Committee has formulated guiding principle to introduce Omnis as per Supreme Court directions.
