?Identify and groom rural sports talent?

MINISTER FOR Sports and Youth Welfare Yashodhara Raje Scindia has directed the District Sports Officers (DSOs) to take personal interest in identifying and grooming rural sports talent.

The minister issued the directive while reviewing sports activities in districts at a meeting of the DSOs here today. Addressing the DSOs, she said the government would extend full cooperation in identifying and grooming rural sports talent.

The Minister for Sports and Youth Welfare asked the DSOs to be active in games and inspire enthusiasm among youths. She said that proper attention would be paid in improving facilities for them as also to ensure their dignity.
Further, special efforts would be made to bring the physically and mentally challenged children, Sahariya tribals, women and rural youths into the mainstream of sports, she said.

Addressing the meeting, Special Olympics India head Air Marshal Denzil Joseph Keelor said that his institution is making efforts to actively associate disabled children with sporting activities. He sought the cooperation of sports officials in this regard.

Yashodhara said that there is a plan to reactivate the Rural Sports Centres and to increase the budget of Sports and Youth Welfare Department.

Principal Secretary, Sports and Youth Welfare, Ranjana Choudhary and Director Sports Sanjay Choudhary attended the meeting.
