A major tragedy was averted on Monday as security forces detected and destroyed an improvised explosive device (IED) on Jammu-Srinagar national highway, official sources said.

A bomb disposal squad was rushed to the spot in Anantnag district which diffused the explosive, placed in a cooking utensil weighing about seven kilo grams, sources said.
