Sangeet Sivan claims that Click is his first attempt at horror. Actually, it’s his second. He made a film, Sandhya, with Jackie Shroff earlier but the film was never released. That explains the attack of amnesia. A couple of flops, then, Sivan switched to comedy, and bounced back with Kya Kool Hai Hum and Apna Sapna Money Money. He’s back to a shiver thriller again and hopes Click will click.
“It was time to experiment, I didn’t want to get typed as a maker of comedies, nor did I want expectations to soar to unimaginable heights after two hits,” Sivan reasons. “Besides, horror as a genre, offers a lot of scope to a director, with technique scoring over content and star power. The USP of Click is horror. That connects it with the young generation.”
But doesn’t a film today require a repeat audience for it to make it into the ‘hit’ category? “I’ll be happy if people watch Click even once,” he laughs. “Horror is a big craze in the W est. Even Indians believe in ghosts and are fascinated by stories of evil spirits. For once, I’m hoping to scare them into seeing a movie.”
If it works will a Click 2 follow?
“There’s scope for a sequel,” Sivan nods, then adds, “Even though personally I don’t like to take a story forward.” But before that he’s set to return as a producer with 323 Andheri To Kurla that has been directed by Mahesh Pandey. He himself is directing two films - Cheers for Vijayeta Films with Dharmendra and Bobby Deol, and Jab Jab Phool Mile with Bobby Deol, Sanjay Dutt and a third actor who has yet to be located.
