IFS officer held for allegedly taking bribe

A senior officer is arrested by the state anti-corruption bureau after being allegedly caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 2.20 lakh from a contractor, reports Pradip Kumar Maitra.

A senior Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer was arrested on Sunday by the state anti-corruption bureau (ACB) after he was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 2.20 lakh from a forest contractor at his residence here.

The ACB officials also recovered a sum of Rs 13.45 lakh from a suitcase in his official car.

Ravindra Dayal, a 1978-batch IFS officer and conservator of forests (CF), North Chanda circle, was trapped when he allegedly accepted the bribe from one Abdul Nagani of Kamptee, for allegedly giving transit pass (TP) to transport bamboos that Nagani purchased from the forest department in an auction. It is alleged that Dayal did not give TP to the contractor despite he deposited Rs 27 lakh to the department.
