A vibrant campaign
Apropos of Sitaram Yechury’s Call for vibrant India (December 13), one wonders if Communists and so-called secularists under the banner of the United Progressive Alliance have anything left to do except BJP-bashing. Recently, Yechury made a futile attempt to expose the BJP’s “duplicity” on the Taslima issue. The Leftists buckled under the pressure of fundamentalists, thus exposing their communal face. This time he is taking on Modi and his "vibrant" Gujarat.

Muffled voices
With reference to Salman Ahmad’s article An equal music (December 12), he is right that General Pervez Musharraf has shown his true colours by gagging the media. Pakistan needs to undergo a sort of renaissance and that's possible only when the effort is made by a major section of the society. We Indians wish our neighbour well and hope for a speedy restoration of democracy and peace there.

Ignorant media
Arti Jaiman in Juvenile dereliction (December 14) rightly points out the open flouting of the juvenile justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2000. The so-called active media are either so ignorant as to not know our own Constitution or so irresponsible, going to any extent in a scramble for TRPs. They have left no stone unturned in turning those children into lifetime criminals. Even the police commissioner is no different.

With reference to the editorial A shopkeeper’s angst (December 13), the survey once again brings out the fact that we lack vision. We make and dump plans without any serious thought. Much of the fuss that we face today could have been avoided if we had co-opted local retailers at whose cost the organised retail sectors are mushrooming.
