IGNOU orientation workshop concludes

SOME VALUABLE inputs for inclusion into the PG curricula of Public Administration, History and Political Science courses run by the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) emerged at the conclusion of the two-day orientation workshop of the academic counselors from five States at the Academy of Administration today.

SOME VALUABLE inputs for inclusion into the PG curricula of Public Administration, History and Political Science courses run by the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) emerged at the conclusion of the two-day orientation workshop of the academic counselors from five States at the Academy of Administration today.

The recommendations of the workshop would be included in shaping of the PG curricula of the abovementioned subjects with a view to make courses more useful and to upgrade their quality. The emphasis is on these subjects as the civil services aspirants mainly take them up as options.

Academic counselors from Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh participated in the two-day workshop.

A number of eminent resource persons held discussions over the two days and apart from the curricula inputs, general higher education scenario was also discussed. Resource persons included Dr Pandav Nayak, Dr Pradeep Sahni, Dr D Goptal, Dr Swaraj Basu, Dr Vayunandan and Dr S B Upadhyay.

They concluded that as much as 93 per cent population was still deprived of higher education facilities and education focusing on employment generation was yet to take shape in country. It was mentioned that IGNOU has planned and targetted 20 per cent adult population to be educated by year 2020.
