THE THIRD Convocation function of Allahabad's Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT-A) will be held on its Jhalwa campus on August 12.
Preparations for the function are in full swing. Deemed University's 194 students will be conferred with degrees on the occasion. Besides, over a dozen outstanding students will be felicitated with medals.
IIIT-A Director Prof MD Tiwari said that Provost and Executive Vice-President for Academic Affairs of US State University of New York, Buffalo Prof Satish Kumar Tripathi would be the chief guest on the occasion. He will also deliver the convocation address.
Prof Tripathi will also be conferred with the Degree of Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) for his outstanding contributions in the field of science and education during the function.
Chairman of IIIT-A's Board of Governors Padma Bhushan FC Kohli will preside over the convocation function which will also be attended by Chairman of IIIT-A society Prof AR Verma.
Prof Tiwari said that 66 students, who completed their BTech (Information Technology) course between July 2002 and June 2006, would be conferred with their degrees along with 61 students of MTech (IT) July 2004-June 2006 batch— out of which 18 have specialised in Bio-informatics, 16 in Intelligent Systems, 14 in Wireless Communication and Computing and 13 in Software Engineering.
For the first time, 41 graduating students of MBA (IT) and 25 of Cyber Law and Information Security will also be awarded degrees at the function. A female student will be awarded Ph D during the convocation.

{{/usCountry}}Prof Tiwari said that besides the regular medals for outstanding academic performances, this year two new medals - Pt Yadunath Tiwari Memorial Gold Medal and Shashank Verma Memorial Gold Medal - will also be presented. Pt Yadunath Tiwari Memorial Gold Medal will be presented to the overall best female student of IIIT-A.
On the eve of the event, IIIT-A students will present a cultural programme at the institute on Friday evening. A ceremony to award students for their exemplary co-curricular activities during the past one year will also be organised on the occasion.
