"With the Commonwealth Games in Delhi this year and the popularity of Indian Premier League (IPL), what is happening is that sports management is emerging as a new field," IIM-A director Samir Barua told mediapersons Wednesday.

"There is a good demand of talent in managing sports and world over it has become an industry in itself. India is only now waking up to this kind of skill. This is a first move from our side to try and professionalise the management of sports," Barua said about the PMSO course which is part of the institutes's Management Development Progamme (MDP) 2010-11.

Asked if they had enough faculty for the course, the IIM-A director said they will initially draw skills from outside as this is the first year of the course.

This year, 380 students have enrolled for IIM-A's flagship Post-Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM) which include 341 males (89 per cent) and 39 females (10 per cent).
