IIM professor frames health manifesto for political parties

To bring back the issue of basic health prominently on the agenda of different political parties in the election year, a professor of IIM Ahmedabad has taken it upon himself the task of preparing a manifesto for a healthcare system and sending it to them.

The manifesto being prepared by Dileep Mavalankar and his team will be offered to political parties across the board so that they can include it in their agendas.

"Our health care system is in shambles. People are dying in our country due to diseases like hepatitis and meningitis. There is no accountability in the present governing system for deaths related to outbreak of diseases," Mavalankar said.

The central and state governments spend crores of rupees on development of infrastructure but the basic requirement of healthcare was being ignored, he alleged.

The IIM(A) professor said ill-health affects the economy badly.

"India has one of the world's lowest levels of public expenditure on health leading to very high mortality, disease burden and increasing poverty due to ill health.
