The Indian Institutes of Management are planning a course correction for the Common Admission Test next year, as the first-ever online version of the examination this year was marred by a series of crashes across the country.
“We are contemplating extending the number of exam days from 10 to maybe 20 next year to bring down the capacity burden. We might even do it in tranches,” Samir Barua, director, IIM-Ahmedabad said.
For those who could not take the test this year that started from November 28, the IIMs and Prometric — the agency that conducted the test — have extended the exam by one more day, Tuesday.
CAT convener Satish Deodhar told HT: “We expect that about 20,000 students, who missed their test, would be taking the exam tomorrow.”
Deodhar said still some more might have been left out. To accommodate them, another test date would be announced in about a fortnight.
About 2.15 lakh aspirants have so far taken the test against a total registered number of candidates of 2.42 lakh this year.
Barua, however, said although the contract with Prometric was for five years, the IIM Directors Forum might look for an alternative after a thorough review of this year’s fiasco.
