Nitin Jain (18), the Faridabad boy who topped this year’s IIT (Indian Institutes of Technology) entrance test, has won an international contest.
He has won the gold medal at the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astro-physics, held in Iran.
A student of computer science at IIT Delhi, Jain was one of five students who took part in the Olympiad, held between October 17 and 26, at Tehran. He also been adjudged as Best in Theory and the best overall.
Winning the Olympiad is nothing new for Jain. He had been declared the overall winner at last year’s edition in Jakarta.
Soon after his arrival late on Wednesday, Jain straightaway went to a Sector-21 club to celebrate his birthday with his parents and relatives. It was a cause for double celebration for this shy champion.
N.C. Jain, his father and chief executive of an export company in Delhi, said: “I cherish the desire to see my son win the Nobel Prize.”
While the Jains originally hail from Rajasthan’s Alwar district, they have been living in Faridabad for the past 25 years.

{{/usCountry}}Jain passed his Class XII board examination from Modern Vidya Niketan (MVN) School, Sector-17, with 95 per cent marks. He passed his Class X exams from Gita Bal Niketan school, scoring 96.6 per cent.
“He was exceptionally intelligent,” said J.P. Gaur, vice-principal of MVN, who also taught him Physics.
