STUDENTS OF the IIT-K and the GSVM Medical College feel that Indians were liberated from the British regime 57 years ago, but the tyrant ideology is still there in the country.
They feel that ultimate aim of all political parties in the country is their vote bank and for this they can even declare 100 per cent reservation in higher institutions.
The reaction came after the declaration was made by Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee to implement reservations from June 2007.
The technocrats and medicos, unperturbed with the declaration of government, are contemplating over a long battle against reservation. They blame the literate class of being responsible for the defeat.
A student of the IIT-K said, “The educated class instead of strengthening the anti-reservation struggle by coming out openly with their views, are confined to drawing room conversation deploring government’s policy.
The students of both the institutes were contemplating to sit on hunger strike on Wednesday but after taking a lesson from their striking counter parts at the AIIMS New Delhi, they decided not to do so.They said, “It is not the time for hunger it is the time to exhibit anger so that the government should reconsider its decision.”
Meanwhile, Junior Residents (JRs) at the GSVM Medical College have decided to lend moral support to their striking counterparts. On Wednesday, JRs were present at the out patient department of all the six hospitals under the GSVM Medical College.

They fear that if they were found involved in anti-reservation protest then their thesis might be delayed.”
The students, however, are eyeing at May 28 meeting to be held in New Delhi. Some of the students of both premier institutes have decided to participate in the meeting to chalk out a strategy for the battle ahead.
Students are also overwhelmed by the huge turn out on Tuesday cycle procession from the IIT-K to Motijheel. Medicos on Wednesday evening took out a candle procession.
However, several students of the IIT-K and the GSVM Medical College said fight against reservation was going to last long. They were working in collusion with the like-minded people of the society to provide a platform devoid of castism and pity politics.
Talking to Hindustan Times, IITians and medicos said, “If the political parties do not clear their stand on reservation till 2010, then bodies like ‘Youth for Equality’ and ‘Forum of Indians against Reservation’ (FIR) would launch a revolution in the country.”
Some representatives of FIR from the IIT-K are soon leaving for New Delhi to share their views with members of ‘Youth for Equality’.
