Illegal crackers worth Rs 60 lakh seized

Illegally-manufactured crackers worth around Rs 60-70 lakh were seized today from a market in Kacchi Sarai of Dalmandi area in the city, police said. On a tip-off, the police raided the 16 godowns of Javed Baba, Lala and Ejaz in the area and recovered the huge cache of crackers, which were mostly packed in cartons, Inspector General D K Thakur said.

The trio however managed to escape during the raid, he said. This is the second time that such a huge quantity of illegal crackers has been recovered from the city in the last three days.

On October 20, police had arrested two shopkeepers and recovered crackers to the tune of Rs 17 lakhs from Chhattatale area.
