An illegal immigrant from India has been ordered to be deported after serving two-and-a-half years jail sentence for stabbing his employer in Worcestershire.

An illegal immigrant from India has been ordered to be deported after serving two-and-a-half years jail sentence for stabbing his employer in Worcestershire.

Harjit Singh, 30, who was working in a fish and chips shop in Kidderminster owned by Indian-origin businessman Kuldip Singh, attacked the latter after consuming alcohol on the ground that he had not been paid wages.

Kuldip Singh, however, escaped with minor injures during the attack, when Harjit Singh was overpowered. Harjit Singh pleaded guilty in the Worcester Crown Court this week to the charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Judge Robert Juckes made a deportation order to return Singh home after he had served his sentence.

"I accept the non-payment of wages and that you had been grossly insulted during the argument but you picked up a lethal weapon and made a serious attempt to do Singh a really bad injury. There was a degree of provocation present but by chance the injury you caused was minimal," the Judge said.

Gurdeep Garcha, defending lawyer, said Singh "regretted his few moments of madness" while locked up on remand.

Garcha said Singh - who was helped by an interpreter as he cannot speak English and wanted to return home, where his mother was seriously ill.
