Tehsildar Krishna Jadhav seized two dredgers, six suction pumps and a JCB machine worth Rs 5 crore.

“We have handed over the seized items to the police. The identity of the owners of the dredgers will soon be known,” Jadhav said. “We have reserved plots for sand dredging but still illegal sand dredging is taking place. So, we had carried out raids at Mumbra, Bhayander and Thane,” he said.

Senior police inspector Arun Sonde said that a case will be registered under the Maharashtra Land Revenue Code, 1966 and section 379 of IPC (theft) against those involved in the illegal sand dredging.
