IMA issue: DM orders probe

DISTRICT MAGISTRATE Rajeev Agrawal ordered a magisterial inquiry into alleged manhandling of Indian Medical Association State secretary Dr OP Tiwari by Banaras Hindu University security personnel during the Joint Entrance Examination on April 9.

Following the district magistrate’s announcement, the agitated doctors held a meeting on IMA premises and decided to call of their strike. Members of the IMA’s local chapter had observed a strike here on Wednesday and held a meeting with the district magistrate at his residence in the evening. The agitated doctors apprised the district magistrate of the incident. Then, the DM ordered a magisterial inquiry into the matter and said stern action would be taken against those found guilty after the probe.

Prominent among those who participated in the meeting were IMA president Dr PS Pandey, Dr Sanjay Rai, Dr Vivek Kumar, Dr Anurag Tandon, Dr Ashok Rai, Dr SK Mishra, Dr Ajeet Saigal and Dr Arvind Singh.

There was a scuffle between Dr OP Tiwari and BHU security personnel during the JEE on Sunday last. Dr Tiwari had lodged an FIR against the BHU chief proctor and four other security personnel with Lanka police station for alleged manhandling . Dr Tiwari had accompanied his daughter to the BHU for the JEE.
