The objective of the workshop was to motivate local physicians to play a more active role in the control of the dreaded HIV virus.

The workshop was inaugurated by Prof PC Saxena, principal of MLN Medical College, Allahabad.

On the occasion Dr Saxena said private physicians have an important role to play in the community for HIV prevention, early detection and education.

AMA president Dr AK Bansal said now AIDS could be managed with the help of many anti-viral drugs, which are available at ART Centres in UP including BHU Varanasi, KGMU Lucknow and Medical College Meerut.

“Many VCTC Centres (Voluntary Counselling and Testing Centre) have also opened for HIV testing and providing counselling to general public,” he added.

District coordinator Dr GS Sinha said, the workshop was organised for those doctors who were not managing HIV patients but need basic information on safety, testing and referral.
