IMA to hold clinic for brain stroke patients

THE INDIAN Medical Association (IMA), city wing, will organise a special clinic for brain stroke patients on every Saturday in May. Prof Navneet Kumar, head of Neurology Department at GSVM Medical College, will check the patients.

On the occasion of ‘International Stroke Awareness Month’ being observed world over in May, the IMA, emphasising on the need of educating people about symptoms of brain stroke, will conduct a clinic at its office Temple of Service in Parade on every Saturday from 4 pm to 6 pm.

Doctors who were preset at the IMA office on Saturday expressed their concern over increasing number of brain stroke cases in the city. They said with urbanisation and stressful lifestyle, the disease now became common among people in the age group of 40 and above.

The diabetes and blood pressure patients are target of brain stroke during summer and winter months besides women who take contraceptive and addict to smoking are also prone to brain attack if they do not consult doctors after noticing initial symptoms. Dr Kumar, while describing about preventive measures, said, “If anyone feels uneasiness for a couple of minutes and his hands and feet stop working then he must get his blood pressure and sugar checked.”
