The committee, chaired by Municipal Commissioner Vinod Sharma, has made acquisition of completion certificates, metered bulk supply connections from Narmada as well as in-house water treatment, water recharge and recycling and solid waste management facilities mandatory for all new high-rise structures.

The high-rise committee, which also has PWD, T and CP, Fire and Traffic department officials on board, further calls for use of fire-resistant construction material, installation of an echo system to cut down noise pollution and payment of sewerage charges on a per unit basis.

“The structure will be provided electrical supply only after the owner has obtained a building permission which, in turn, will be granted only upon submission of the parking plan. Mall owners have also been forbidden to dig borewells. They must install solid waste management and water recycling and reuse apparatus so that existing civic infrastructure is not overburdened,” declared Municipal Commissioner Vinod Sharma.

Although a sewage treatment plant of sorts has been set up it is far from sufficient to deal with the voluminous qualities churned out by the mall-cum-multiplex everyday. Adequate parking remains a distant dream and Treasure Island has invited the wrath of municipal officials for diverting inbound vehicles to the IMC-owned parking lot at Dhakkanwalla Kuan.
