IT MAY have failed to enforce similar directives at the controversial Treasure Island multiplex-cum-mall. But that has not stopped the IMC high-rise committee from issuing a list of 15 preconditions for new shopping malls and starred hotels to come up in the City.
The committee, chaired by Municipal Commissioner Vinod Sharma, has made acquisition of completion certificates, metered bulk supply connections from Narmada as well as in-house water treatment, water recharge and recycling and solid waste management facilities mandatory for all new high-rise structures.
The high-rise committee, which also has PWD, T and CP, Fire and Traffic department officials on board, further calls for use of fire-resistant construction material, installation of an echo system to cut down noise pollution and payment of sewerage charges on a per unit basis.
“The structure will be provided electrical supply only after the owner has obtained a building permission which, in turn, will be granted only upon submission of the parking plan. Mall owners have also been forbidden to dig borewells. They must install solid waste management and water recycling and reuse apparatus so that existing civic infrastructure is not overburdened,” declared Municipal Commissioner Vinod Sharma.
The same conditions were imposed on Treasure Island also, which is yet to adhere to these rules even after more than a year of its beginning operations. The controversial building continues to function on a partial completion certificate issued by former Municipal Commissioner P Narhari. The solid waste management plant is yet to be built forcing the promoters to shell out hefty fees to the IMC for garbage collection.

Adequate parking remains a distant dream and Treasure Island has invited the wrath of municipal officials for diverting inbound vehicles to the IMC-owned parking lot at Dhakkanwalla Kuan.
