IMC tasks at standstill

Additional Commissioner (General Administration Department) Kumar Purshottam has not reported for work for over a week after his spat with a Mayor-in-Council (MiC) member.

While K R Jain, brought in to replace Additional Commissioner (Revenue) Ramesh Bhandari who has been posted as Deputy Collector, is still trying to come to grips with his new posting.

Meanwhile, tasks like disciplinary action, correspondence with State Government, and awarding of tenders, the Additional Commissioner heads the tender committee, have been hanging fire.

It is the last named that has particularly slowed down the Corporation’s activities. For instance, no headway has been made in the proposal to hand over cleaning of nullahs to private contractors.

Although the Health Department has received three bids for the project these have been kept on hold, as a meeting of the tender committee cannot be convened.

It may be noted that Additional Commissioner Kumar Purshottam had declared ‘Aise naukri nahin karoonga’ (I will not work in such a situation) after an MiC member allegedly made derogatory remarks.

True to his word the Additional Commissioner has not signed in at the IMC headquarters and, say sources, is not even in town having left for his hometown in Bihar. Purshottam was earlier accused of irregularities by several BJP corporators who alleged that he had placed several of his own men on the IMC muster employee roll.
