POSTAL DEPARTMENT is all set to go hi-tech. Instant Money Order (IMO), the on-line money transfer service, will soon be started for the customers of the department, thus providing speedy and improved services.

According to Post Master General (PMG) Ashutosh Tripathi initially the service will start at Allahabad Head Post Office. Later, it may be considered for Kutchery Zonal Post Office. Besides Allahabad, the IMO service will also start in Varanasi, he said.
PMG said that under this system the sender has to collect a confidential 16 digit IMO number from the IMO post office and has to inform the payee of the same IMO number. The sender can send money upto Rs 50,000 in one transaction and this money will be disbursed to the payee at any of the IMO post offices in India on presentation of 16 digit IMO number and photo identity proof.
However, this service will not be a local one.
In Uttar Pradesh the IMO service has recently been started in Aligarh, he said.
"The services will be provided to the customers of Allahabad and Varanasi within a couple of months", said the PMG.
