CHEMICAL SCIENCES had made a major impact on biological, pharmaceutical, environmental, physical and material sciences, said Prof. Girjesh Govil of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (Mumbai) here on Friday.

Delivering a lecture on ‘Nobel Glory in Chemistry: The Next Generation’ during the inaugural function of a two-day national seminar on ‘Chemical Structure of Atomic World’ in the Chemistry Department of BHU here, he said, “An analysis of the Nobel Prizes in the last 15 years indeed shows that in the eyes of award committees, chemistry has developed into a multi-disciplinary field”, he said.

The work of most of these awardees had led to path breaking discoveries which had a direct impact on applications leading to better life, besides creation of wealth.

“Recent Nobel Prizes in chemistry have been awarded to chemists who have made path breaking contributions to advances in the fields of designing, studying and making important materials”, he added.
