Shweta Tripathi, who is undergoing treatment at the National Hospital, alleged that she was attacked at her in-laws’ place because her father was unable to meet the demand of Rs 5 lakh. She alleged that her husband, Shobhit and brother-in-law Mohit assaulted her.

The latter allegedly stabbed her in the neck and hands. The police registered a case against Shobhit, his brothers Mohit, sister-in-law Preeti apart from other family members for dowry harassment and voluntarily causing hurt.

Shweta’s family says that they gave Rs 11 lakh as dowry to Shobhit’s father at the time of marriage, but within a few days of marriage, she was asked to bring Rs 5 lakh more so that Shobhit could prepare for the Public Service Commission (PSC).

On April 29, when she went to her in-laws house with her father, an argument ensued, following which she was attacked.
