THE COMMUNIST Party of India (Marxist) has also joined the ‘rath’ race. Soon, Left leaders will move out on ‘raths’ to reach out to the people in various parts of the State.
The ‘yatra’ will be part of the CPI(M) Central Committee’s plan to launch its political drive in UP from August 16 to September 15. The party seeks to highlight the anti-people policies of the Central and State governments during the ‘yatra’. Apart from the ‘rath yatra’, the party will also organise public meetings, rallies, demonstrations and mass-contact programmes.
“Don’t compare ours with the ‘rath yatras’ of parties like the Congress, the BJP and the Samajwadi Party,” State secretary of the CPI (M) Sri Prakash Kashyap said.
“Our ‘rath yatra’ will not have the pomp and show that goes with those of other political parties,” Singh quipped.
“Along with State-level leaders, the workers will move on these vehicles from one village to another and create awareness among the people about the policies and agenda of the CPI(M),” he said.
“The party’s good show in the recent West Bengal and Kerala Vidhan Sabha elections has not only added to its strength but also increased the status of the CPI(M). The common man is showing a leaning towards our policies. We will provide the people with an alternative to the Congress, the BJP and the SP in the State as well as at the Centre,” Kashyap said.

{{/usCountry}}To attack the main players on the UP turf, the CPI(M) has firmed up its strategy. It plans to highlight the communal tensions in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh to put the BJP on the defensive. The issue of ‘Dalit adhikar’ and spurt in the incidents of attack on the members of the community will be highlighted to nail the ruling Samajwadi Party.
“We will also focus on social issues including women empowerment and female foeticide,” the CPI(M) leader said. “The party will oppose the anti-farmer policies and move to bring FDI in the agriculture sector. Poor people are not getting cheap ration from the PDS outlets. This will also be highlighted”, he added.
