SUPPLY OF compressed natural gas (CNG) will start from the first week of April in the city for public transports. But inadequate supply and in absence of distribution centers, local transport authorities are worried about the proper execution of CNG distribution in the city.
However, a meeting has been scheduled with the representatives of Tempo Taxi Association and Mahanagar Bus Association leaders along with additional district magistrate very soon, said regional transport officer BK Gupta.
Gupta said that about 19000 kg CNG would be supplied per day from the mother plant of Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) located at Fazalganj. He expressed his doubts about sufficient quantity of CNG with huge number of public transports presence in the city and said that a plan of distribution and technical suggestion were needed to decide the future strategy.
Since, supply may fall short and problem may occur in supply, therefore, local administration is chalking out a future plan. City had about 3,000 tempo, 400 Mahanagar bus and about 350 school buses. Guta said it seems difficult to meet the demand of CNG for such a big fleet of transport. Therefore, all sections had been invited to discuss the issue and on the basis of outcome of the discussions, it would be decided that how many transport from which section should be asked to convert their transport to CNG fuel.
