THE SECOND basic and intermediate training course on Incident Command System would commence at the Disaster Management Institute Hostel Conference hall on January 16.
About 25 officers from IAS, IPS and other services engaged in disaster management would participate in the five-day training programme. The officers belong to MP, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. Apart from in-house faculty of DMI, senior faculty from LBSNAA, Mussoorie and other states would impart training to the officers. The training programme would be a mix of lectures and exercises.
In order to address the requirement of a professional on-scene response management team for disaster management, the Union Government has taken initiative to institutionalise the training related to Incident Management System in the country. A programme has been taken up by the GoI in association with the United States Forest Service (USFS) and is a component of the GoI-USAID Disaster Management Support Programme.
The training is part of this programme that seeks to build teams at district and state-level for responding to complex, critical disasters. The training would be inaugurated at 10.30 am and is being coordinated by Saurabh Kumar, assistant director.
