The curfew was imposed following large-scale agitation after the killing of sub divisional officer Th Kishan and his two staff members in Ukhrul district after their abduction on February 13. Their bodies were found in neighbouring Senapati district on February 17.

Meanwhile, several civil society groups continued sit-in protests in different parts of the state demanding punishment for the killers of the SDO and the two others.

The people had earlier defied night curfew some days ago and taken out a torchlight rally demanding action against killers, district sources said.

Official sources said preliminary investigations revealed that Kishan, a former Delhi University lecturer who joined Manipur Civil Service last year, had refused to sign a paper which contained 'fictitious' names of beneficiaries of the National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme.
