Independent candidate contesting UP polls shot at in Ghaziabad

A 36-year-old woman, who is currently contesting for Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections from Ghaziabad, was shot at by unidentified assailants near her election office at PAC colony on late Sunday night.

A 36-year-old woman, who is currently contesting for Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections from Ghaziabad, was shot at by unidentified assailants near her election office at PAC colony on late Sunday night.

Madhu Suneja, an independent candidate, had returned to her office after campaigning at Vijay Nagar on Sunday late night when the incident took place.

"We all were sitting inside when we heard sounds of two bikes passing past our election office. When we came out, we found her lying in a pool of blood and unconscious. We could not spot anyone. We immediately rushed her to hospital," Joginder Kumar, one of Suneja’s supporter told Hindustan Times.

At least 15 supporters were present at the her office at 9.45pm when the incident occurred. But no one could be identified. She was rushed to Yashoda Hospital where she is reported to be in a critical state.

The police said that they were investigating more into the incident and are trying to find out any personal or political rivalry angle into the incident.
