"India and Bangladesh reiterated that the use of the territory of either country would not be allowed for terrorist and criminal activities against the other country and that sustained cooperation and information sharing would be encouraged for the benefit of both countries," a home ministry official said.

This matter was discussed at the ninth meeting of the India-Bangladesh Joint Working Group on security and border related issues here.

India requested Bangladesh to take expeditious action against terrorists and criminals reportedly hiding in its territory and also against those on whom Interpol Red Corner notices have been issued.

In the last few years, Bangladesh has become a hub of terrorist activities targetting India.

The Harkat-ul-Jehad-al-Islami (HuJI), a Bangladesh-based terror outfit, has allegedly been responsible for a series of terrorist attacks in India. The Indian government has in the past discussed with Bangladesh the issue of terrorist training camps along their border.

At the talks, the Indian delegation was led by Naveen Verma, joint secretary (northeast) in the home ministry, while the Bangladeshi delegation was led by MH Chowdhury, joint secretary (political).

Other issues discussed in the meeting include cooperation in the field of capacity building of police forces and training programmes for law enforcement agencies.
