Globalisation has affected every sphere of life and India cannot progress without it. This statement was made by Lt Gen Ashok Vasudeva while speaking at a seminar on "Impact of Globalisation on Indian security" at the Indira Gandhi Auditorium, Feroze Gandhi College, on Saturday.

The seminar, sponsored by the University Grants Commission (UGC), was organised by the Department of Defence Studies.

The General said: "National security is a comprehensive term. Security does not mean protection of national boarders only, it also includes protection of socio-economic and political interests too."

He said national security was not only concerned with the military matters. It's multi-dimensional. He further said that even good governance was part of it and said that the Naxal problem was concerned with good governance.

Shedding light on globalisation, the General said it had affected every aspect of life — military, security and even technology and telecommunication. It also affected culture, federalism and even our polity also, he said.

"Today the world is dominated by the supermarkets as prevailing in Mumbai, Sanghai and Paris. Today's culture is affected by Coca Cola, Pepsi and MTV culture," he said.

Earlier, the seminar was declared open by former professor and head of the defence studies department (Allahabad) DD Khanna and Onkar Nath Bhargava presided over the seminar.
