Henry Kissinger’s remarks that India should not be trusted to balance the growing clout of China since it would only act in its interest is curious (Kissinger-speak, February 1). One wonders if Kissinger expects us to serve US interests in preference to our own. He cannot be oblivious to his own nation dumping Tibet and Taiwan to access the Chinese market. Or ignoring cross-border terror being directed by its ally Pakistan against India in order to use its proximity to Afghanistan. Nations, India included, follow policies to advance their own interests.

Modi’s record

With reference to Rajdeep Sardesai’s article Modi, Mody & Co. (February 2), thousands of children go missing in India every year. Every child is valuable and must be protected. Narendra Modi is accountable for what happened in Gujarat in 2002. But calling Modi a ‘butcher’ or ‘hero of hatred’ is not the solution. If Sardesai has genuine sympathy for Dara Mody, let him arrange his meeting with Narendra Modi.

Rajdeep Sardesai has rightly said that Modi has proved beyond doubt his administrative acumen. Vibrant Gujarat was an occasion to invite captains of industries to accelerate investments and bring more capital to the state. He has a vision and mission to make Gujarat a well-developed state. The only black mark is the riots of 2002. Even a statement from the CM’s office expressing sorrow for what happened in 2002, will do good to Modi’s image.

Reversal of roles

This refers to the report Should they enter politics? RWAs divided (January 31). RWAs should stay away from politics to fight the government, civic authorities and politicians fearlessly and redress people’s grievances.
