‘Everybody is sympathetic towards the Tamils in Sri Lanka. Nobody wants war. Nobody wants innocent people to be killed. Every Indian wants that the people are saved. We are not encouraging anything, but we want the civilians to be saved´, he told reporters in reply to a question.

On his party PMK’s stand on the Sri Lankan Tamils issue, he said ‘Our leader has been voicing concern. We do not want any genocide there. We want to make an attempt to see that ceasefire is implemented´.

When asked why the Centre was not intervening in the issue, he said External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee had stated that the war should be stopped.

To a query on the clash between lawyers and police in Chennai, PMK President G K Mani, who was also present, said ‘This is the first time such a thing had happened in the history of Madras High Court´.
