Days after hardline Islamist group Hamas won Parliamentary elections in Palestine, India and Israel on Wednesday held high-level talks during which the latest situation in West Asia was discussed besides various other issues.
Visiting Israeli National Security Adviser Maj Gen (retd) Giora Eiland met Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee and held discussions with his Indian counterpart MK Narayanan and Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran on a range of issues.
The talks covered developments in West Asia besides security perspectives on regional and global matters, an External Affairs Ministry spokesman said.
Bilateral issues, developments in South Asia, Gulf and North Africa also figured in the parleys, he said.
Eiland, who is here on a three-day visit since Tuesday, will meet India's Special envoy on West Asia CR Gharekhan on Thursday.
The Israeli NSA's visit assumes significance as it takes place just a week after Hamas emerged victorious in parliamentary elections in Israel, triggering concerns in Tel Aviv and the US.
