Tendulkar, who had equalled Sunil Gavaskar's world record 34 Test centuries on Saturday, handed India a mammoth 342-run first innings lead by helping them to 526.

Pathan then ripped out the heart of the Bangladesh reply with a five-wicket burst to leave them struggling on 170 for eight at close of the third day's play, still 172 behind.

The 20-year-old had figures of five for 31 on a lively wicket, adding to his Test-best five for 45 in the first innings.

Opener Nafis Iqbal was the only batsman to put up any real resistance, scoring 54 for his first Test half-century. Manjural Islam Rana added a belligerent unbeaten 50.

More records tumbled earlier in the day as Tendulkar shared in a 133-run stand with last-man Zaheer Khan, who hit a career-best 75.
