India, Pak not keen on 20-20 World Cup

PCB Chairman Shaharyar Khan, who met with his Indian counterpart Sharad Pawar, said both countries were agreed on the issue.

Pakistan and India are not in favour of having a World Twenty20 Championship as endorsed at a meeting of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Chief Executives Committee (CEC) in Dubai this week.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Shaharyar Khan, who met with his Indian counterpart Sharad Pawar in Karachi on Sunday, said both countries were agreed on the issue.

"Pakistan's view is clear, we don't support this tournament and from our talks with the Indians we know they share our views. We will be conveying our views clearly at the ICC executive board meeting next month," Shaharyar told Reuters.

The CEC agreed to hold a Twenty20 world championship and a revamped ICC Champions Trophy featuring just the top eight teams in world cricket from 2008.

These recommendations will now be taken to the ICC Executive Board's March meeting in Dubai for it to make a final decision.

"We feel it dilutes the importance of international cricket," Shaharyar said.

February 28 is the deadline for submission of final bids. Australia and New Zealand have also expressed interest in making a joint bid for the 2011 tournament.
