India and South Africa have signed an agreement to create a mutually beneficial relationship in the field of merchant shipping and related maritime transport matters.
Indian Transport Minister TR Baalu and his South African counterpart Jeff Radebe on Thursday signed the deal that is expected to encourage and facilitate the development of maritime relations between the shipping organisations of the two sides.
The pact will also facilitate the exchange of information for accelerating the flow of commercial goods at sea and at port and encourage the strengthening of the cooperation between merchant fleets.
A maritime liaison committee has been established to enhance the implementation of the agreement.
Baalu is on a four-day visit to South Africa and will return home Sunday.
