The green light to play in the Bangladeshi port city was given after a security review, prompted by death threats to the Indian team from Islamic militants, a BCCI official said.

Security officials, in Bangladesh to review the situation, had already approved games in Dhaka, where the first Test match starts on Friday.

"The Government has told us that Chittagong is safe to play in," vice-president of the Indian cricket board Rajiv Shukla said.

Chittagong will also host the first match of the three One-Day International series.

The tour was threatened after the Indian High Commission in Bangladesh received a letter threatening Indian players.

Bangladesh authorities dismissed the letter, from a group called Harkat-ul-Jihad, as a hoax and said it was a ploy to tarnish the country's image but the Indian Government asked for a security review.
