Flashy Kumar was the superior boxer although he took some late punishment from the increasingly desperate Julie.

Kumar won 20-12 on points and joined compatriot Ali Qamar, who won the light-flyweight gold medal at the 2002 Manchester Games.

"Before I came here I knew I would win," Kumar said.

"Indian boxing is improving and the last time in Manchester we got one gold, one silver and one bronze. Now already we have got one gold, one silver and two bronze and one boxer left in the finals."

Kumar said he was looking forward to the next Commonwealth Games in Delhi and would stay on as an amateur fighter.
