New York-based Indian American journalist Prakash M Swamy has been selected as a judge for the Emmy Awards, considered the TV equivalent of the Oscars.
Swamy was handpicked last week by the New York chapter of National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, the organisation which gives out Emmies every year. He was also admitted as member of the International and National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, New York.
Emmy awards come in three categories: prime time; daytime, sports, news and documentary; and international. The 2007 Emmies will be announced next month.
"I am really excited to adjudge entries from the two states of Texas and Illinois," Swamy told IANS.
Swamy, with a PhD in media studies, has 25 years experience in print media and television in India and the US. He has worked for The Hindu, India Today and India Abroad in senior positions.
