Indian athletes ready for tough Asian test

They have trained for months, in India and abroad, for this year's two mega events - the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi and the Asian Games in Guangzhou.

They have trained for months, in India and abroad, for this year's two mega events - the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi and the Asian Games in Guangzhou. Now some of those Indian athletes will get a chance to test their preparations against their compatriots and a strong contingent from the continent in the first Indian Grand Prix here on Monday and the Asian GP the next day.

The Indian GP, which is billed as a qualifying event for the Asian meet, will have 14 events in all including men's and women's competitions in 200m, 1500m, javelin throw and long jump and pole vault, 400m hurdles, 5000m, discus and hammer throw for only men.

In all 11 medallists at the Asian Games in Doha have confirmed their entries for the Asian meet to be held on Tuesday. The conditions are expected to be a bit hot with a high of 36 degree Celsius.
