A 45-year-old Australian man, accused of brutally attacking an Indian cabbie, an incident that sparked an unprecedented stir by immigrant taxi drivers here, has been remanded to custody till December by a court.
Parish Charles, 45, faced Melbourne Magistrates Court. via videolink from Port Phillip Prison charged over the Jalvinder Singh in Clifton Hill early on April 29.
Singh, 23 was a student and a part-time taxi driver.
Charles did not apply for bail and was remanded to reappear on December 8 for a committal hearing, which is expected to last five days, The Age reported.
He appeared gaunt and sat with his head down during the hearing this week.
He faces seven charges including attempted murder, intentionally and recklessly causing serious injury, assault and car theft.
During a previous hearing, Charles' lawyer Rob Melasecca told the court that his client, who was HIV positive and undergoing medication, had no memory of the events.

His stabbing led to a sit-in by taxi drivers in Melbourne's city centre. The mass demonstration ended after Transport Minister Lynne Kosky agreed to the installation of safety screens for drivers.
