An Indian sailor committed suicide by hanging himself in his vessel at the RAK port, a senior police official has said.

The sailor, Sanjeev Kumar Rana, who does not hold UAE residency, was reported dead last week by his colleagues, the Gulf News reported quoting Colonel Abdullah Khamis Al Hadidi, head of the CID of the Ras Al Khaimah Police.

The vessel carrying a number of sailors docked at the port, he said.

The Indian crew told Gulf News that they had been ill-treated by the Iranian captain.

The sailors said they want justice to be done to Rana and want his body to be flown back home to India.
