Indian duo clinches first Grand Prix title

The doubles pair of Rupesh Kumar and Sanave Thomas became the first-ever Indian pair to clinch a Grand Prix doubles title when they won the New Zealand Open GP in Auckland on Saturday.

The doubles pair of Rupesh Kumar and Sanave Thomas became the first-ever Indian pair to clinch a Grand Prix doubles title when they won the New Zealand Open GP in Auckland on Saturday.

Playing in their second GP final in two weeks, the duo beat Japanese fourth seeds Hirokatsu Hashimoto and Noriyasu Hirata 21-16 15-21 21-13.

"It has given us a much-needed moral booster before going into the world championshipsstarting," Rupesh Kumar told HT. "This is the first Grand Prix win for us and we are high on confidence."
