With a total investment of Rs 1,700 crore, the inaugural Indian Grand Prix is easily one of the most expensive privately funded motor sports ventures in the world. As far as ticket prices go, however, it could very well be one of the cheapest as well as the most expensive Formula One race to attend.

Ranging from an estimated Rs 35 lakh for a three-day paddock pass to Rs 2,500 for a three-day general admission pass, tickets for the upcoming Indian GP will probably offer spectators both extremes in terms of viewing experience.

While official prices are yet to be released, president of the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI) Vicky Chandhok confirmed that a three-day general admission pass would cost just Rs 2,500.

If this price is retained when tickets officially go on sale, it would make a general admission pass at the Indian GP the cheapest on offer with the exception of the Malaysian GP in Sepang, which costs around Rs 1,400. It has to be noted that the Malaysian GP is a project backed by their government while the Indian GP is privately funded.

“These barriers cost three times as much as ordinary tyre barriers,” said Chandhok. “They are however more effective and more state of the art than tyre barriers.”
