Indian maid raped in Singapore

A 47-year-old man was accused of repeatedly raping his 38-year-old Indian maid in Singapore.

A 47-year-old man was accused in a Singapore court of repeatedly raping his maid, an Indian national, reports said on Friday.

The 38-year-old woman claimed that Sudarsanan Margasayagam forced himself on her nearly every night from the first day she started work in his flat in June 2004.

She reported her allegations to the police.

The High Court on Thursday scheduled the trial to run during July 17-21, The Straits Times said.

The woman kept her head bowed, not looking at Sudarsanan, who is married. She is currently under the care of a welfare home.

If convicted, Sudarsanan could face up to 20 years in jail and be caned at least 12 strokes.
