The BBC has suspended Indian origin anchor, Hardeep Singh Kohli after he was accused of 'sexual pestering' by a female researcher.
The 39-year-old practising Sikh who is a part of one of the broadcaster's most popular show 'BBC 1 show' has been suspended for six months, reported Daily Mirror online.
Kohli whom the newspaper describes as 'one of the BBC’s rising stars' was hauled up after a female researcher lodged a complaint regarding his inappropriate behaviour.
The complaint was lodged some two months ago and the BBC took action by sacking Kohli.
A spokeswoman for the channel confirmed his removal on Saturday, saying, "The producers of The One Show received a complaint regarding Hardeep’s behaviour towards a production colleague. Hardeep was reprimanded and immediately apologised."
"He agreed to take some time away from the show to reflect on his behaviour. This leave of absence has been agreed to be six months," added the spokesperson.
Kohli was a part of one of BBC’s flagship programmes, regularly pulling in six million viewers a night.
The Glasgow born Kohli, a recently divorced father of two, said in a statement last night, "Nobody has accused me of sexual harassment. I recognise that I overstepped the mark and have apologised unreservedly."
