If a report filed by the Daily Mail is to be believed, the lives of patients in many hospitals here have the potential of being in danger because of errors in transcriptions allegedly committed by staff in India.

Quoting sources at the Association of Medical Secretaries, the paper said those British doctors and general physicians increasingly opting to send their recommendatory letters for transcription to India because of non-availability of secretarial staff, potentially exposed themselves to chances of mistakes slipping in, thus endangering the lives of their patients.

At least eight hospitals in London are using the services of Omnimedical to clear a backlog of letters needing to be transcribed. At present, they were sending an average of 7000 letters per month to India to be transcribed, the AMS sources were further quoted as saying.
