An Indian journalist has been missing from the Nepalese capital since last week.
Krishna Kumar, 50, who had worked with the New Delhi edition of the Times of India and then variously with Business India group's television channel, Jain TV and APCA, went missing from Kathmandu valley on Oct 1.
He had been living in Kathmandu for over four years, where he first worked with the Himalayan Times daily and then its sister publication in Nepali, Annapurna Post. Recently, Kumar had joined the Kathmandu Post.
On Oct 1, Kumar locked up his flat and gave the key to his landlady, saying he was going to the nearby Thapathali area to fetch his wife Mamata. However, he never turned up at Thapathali where Mamata was waiting for him.
Since then, there has been no news of Kumar, his wife said. Initially, his wife made a complaint at the local police station. However, she withdrew it following a mysterious phone call on Tuesday.
A man called up early in the morning to say Kumar had tried to kill himself and was in a hospital in India. He rang off without giving any further information.
While Kumar's friends in Pandav Nagar in New Delhi and his relatives in the Indian capital are looking for him, his wife feels he could have been kidnapped.
"How could he go to India?" Mamata asked. "He had only NRS.200 (about $3) with him."
